Literary Links
Literature, especially dealing with socio-economic,
historical and political subjects has always fascinated me. In this
section, it shall be my attempt to share with you some of the most
brilliant works that I've enjoyed and to give you an insight into the
minds of their creators...explore some unique spots of literary
interest...et al.
- Great Authors
- Leon Uris -- A truly outstanding wordsmith
who paints emotional but forceful re-creations of historical events.
- Nirad Chaudhuri -- Nirad Babu, anglophile par excellence,
controversial and opinionated; one wouldn't call his works "light reading"
but they are a "must-read" for their vastness in scope and mastery over
the English language.
- Frederick Forsyth -- If an eye for detail
and meticulous research are the hallmarks of great espionage thriller
writers, Mr. Forsyth is the greatest of 'em all!
- Salman Rushdie
-- A master story-teller, he mesmerizes the reader with powerful
wordplay, metaphors and his boundless imagination. Surrealist literature
at its best...Read this Rushdie piece on India's
Golden Jubilee and this one too.
- My all-time favorites
- ROOTS by Alex Haley.
- EXODUS by Leon Uris.
- MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN by Salman Rushdie.
- THE DEVIL'S ALTERNATIVE by Frederick Forsyth.
- THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF AN UNKNOWN INDIAN by Nirad Chaudhuri.
- THE SECOND WORLD WAR (6 Vols.) by Sir Winston Churchill.
- PAPILLON by Henri Charriere'.
- THE IDEA FACTORY -- Learning to think at MIT by Pepper White.
- Randamoozham ("Second in Line") Malayalam Novel by
M. T. Vasudevan Nair.
- Book Sources on the Web
- Off-beat
My craze for literature has naturally spurred certain amateurish
attempts at creating readable prose. If you care to see the results, please do so by all means!!
